Luke 21:33 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

The words of God will never pass away.  This is a sure and certain promise that God will preserve all of His words (not just the messages or the thoughts) of the Bible.  With all due respect to those who disagree, this writer does not believe that we should put our faith in old manuscripts as some do who think the older the manuscript the better and more accurate it is.  Instead, we should put our faith in what the Bible says about itself.  The oldest manuscripts will never prove the text of the Bible because: (1) The oldest manuscripts are not old enough, since there is an average gap of many hundreds of years between the oldest manuscript and the original autograph.  (2) The oldest manuscripts are too few.  (3) The oldest manuscripts are not the best, but the worst, disagreeing with themselves and with each other in thousands of places.  (4) The oldest manuscripts were copied hastily and carelessly by people who probably did not believe that they were copying the Word of God.  (5) The oldest manuscripts are the oldest because they had many errors and omissions and were therefore cast upon a shelf and forgotten about and not used, only to be discovered hundreds of years later.  (6) The oldest manuscripts are not the best because they are not independent witnesses, but were copied by the same people, in the same place, and at the same time.  Therefore, we will hold to the same texts of Scripture that God’s people have always had through the many centuries of church history, the tried and true preserved texts which gave us the King James Bible.
