Verse 37 “37And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.”
In the earliest years of the English language, all big fish were typically called whales and all big birds were typically called eagles. In 1611, it certainly was not an error to refer to the big birds of this verse as eagles; however, today we would say “vultures,” not “eagles.” There are many opinions about what the vultures represent. Some commentators say that they are armies. Others guess that they are saints. Other speculations are that they are angels, or false prophets. Likewise, there are many guesses about what the “body” represents, everything from Christ to the Lord’s Supper. Some suppose that the body is the Church. However, when one studies Revelation 19:17-21 (which we should do, for the best commentary on Scripture is Scripture), it becomes clear that the vultures are literal vultures, actual turkey buzzards gathered to eat the literal flesh of the armies of Satan and the leaders, kings, and generals of this world who will follow Satan in his wicked one-world system. The leaders of the Devil’s ecumenical church must certainly be part of this evil body. It is called “the supper of the great God.” It will happen at the Revelation of Christ when He returns to judge Antichrist, the False Prophet, and those who follow them.
