Verse 13-15 “13No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
14And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
15And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”

It is useless to try to serve God while being double minded.  “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8).  There must be a balance in-so-far as money is concerned.  A Christian should care about money matters, as the preceding parable teaches, but a Christian should not give his whole life over to money.  If he errs in either direction, it could ruin him.  “The love of money is the root of all evil” (I Timothy 6:10).  The legalists did not like what Jesus had to say about how to serve God, but Jesus told them that that was because they cared too much about what other people thought of them and what they did they did for show.  The main point here is that God’s attitude is far different from the world’s attitude about worldly things.  His thoughts are far above man’s thoughts.
