Verses 27-28 “27And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
28But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”
When a certain woman was attempting to make Mary, the mother of Jesus, the object of praise and the focus of attention, Jesus corrected her. He said that the Word of God should be the focus of our attention and not the mother of Jesus. Mary is to be greatly honored because she was a good example and because she served God in a way that no one else could. God selected her to be the one to give birth to His Son and to nurture Him through His childhood. She was a good mother to the Holy Child, and therefore, she is to be praised. But it is possible for people to become too carried away, ascribing to Mary things that the Bible does not say and does not even hint at. Mary was not a perpetual virgin. She was not sinless. She was not immaculately conceived. She has not been translated to heaven. She is not to be worshiped or prayed to. And she is not some kind of co-redeemer. So it is best to keep our praise within the limits of Bible truth.
