Verses 11-12 “11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”A manger for a cradle is one of the lovely facts about the birth of our Savior. Children never tire of singing about it, and adults never tire of hearing this wonderful story. How humble for the LORD of the universe to be placed as a Babe in a manger! How attractive to reflective hearts that the Christ, the Messiah of the Jews, should lie on a bed of hay! How stimulating to our thoughts that the Savior of the world, the Savior of as many as would receive Him, should lay His sweet head where animals feed.He was wrapped in a swaddle, some cloth wound around and around the Babe. The swaddle was predictive of his burial when another swaddle would be wrapped around and around His body before He was placed in the tomb. That grave swaddle would become powerful evidence of His resurrection because He would come out of that swaddle without unwinding it. The facts of His birth point to His death and resurrection, for He came to save us from our sins.
