Matthew 26:14-16 “Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.”

Judas Iscariot’s question on this occasion shows the greed of the human heart. He said, “What will ye give me?” Often rich people, especially rich capitalists, are accused of being greedy. In reality, rich capitalists are not any more greedy than socialists or poor people. Greed, in some degree, seems to be a universal ingredient of the fallen Adamic nature. A person shows his greed whenever he covets what someone else has. Judas was willing to commit the most heinous betrayal of all time to get a mere thirty pieces of silver. The incident illustrates, once again, the truth that “the love of money is the root of all evil” (I Timothy 6:10).
