Mark 6:30-32 “And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.”

The disciples of Jesus became very tired in their work, though not tired of it. They had been sent by Jesus to minister to everyone who would receive their preaching. They had met with great success. Crowds of people were following each of them. When the disciples returned to Jesus to tell Him what they had done and what they had taught, He told them that it was time for them to take a rest. A vacation, or time of rest, is as much a part of our service to the Lord as anything else that we do. Some preachers are proud of the fact that they have never taken a vacation, or that they have not taken a vacation “in twenty years.” But this is not necessarily the most spiritual practice in which to engage. Someone aptly said, “Come apart and rest, or else you will just come apart.”
