Mark 6:4-6 “But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.”

Jesus tried to minister to those at home first, His family and His neighbors. This is always a good thing to do. The followers of Jesus were instructed to do this in Acts 2:8. However, as is often the case, those who knew Jesus longest and best did not receive His teaching in great numbers. It hurts when those closest to us are unbelievers. But Jesus did not let rejection discourage Him from His appointed work. He still “went round about the villages, teaching.” He could not do His mightiest work without the cooperation of the people. Healing “a few sick folk” was considered rather minor compared to what He would have done if the hearts of the people had been more receptive. However, healing “a few sick folk” seems earth shaking to us in this day when no one has the gift of miraculous healing. Of course, there are always some fakers, frauds, and “funny people” around who pretend that they are doing miracles, but no one can do anything like what Jesus does.
