18And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
19And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.”
The people were acting like pagans. They had salacious and suggestive worldly music and plenty of immodest entertainment. They were sitting down to eat and drink and rising up to play. They were making lots of noise which they called music. And they had plenty of nudity and dancing. The devil always uses music, dancing, and immodesty to help put over his program.
The Jews of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s day were expected to fall down and worship a false god when they heard an outstanding band play “all kinds of music” (Dan.3:5-12). Things have not changed much. In our own day we must beware of accepting religious ideas simply because they are accompanied by entertainment that appeals to our flesh.
