Verses 12-17 “12And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
13Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
14Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
15Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”
The sabbath was a sign for Israel. The weekly sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday. It has never been changed by the Lord. There is not a verse of Scripture anywhere in the Bible that says that the sabbath was changed to Sunday. Sunday is the Lord’s Day and we worship on Sunday because that is the day that Jesus rose again from the dead, and that is the day upon which the Christians in the Book of Acts continually met for worship. We do not meet for worship on Sunday because it is the sabbath. The sabbath was never given to Gentiles, and it was never given to the church. God says, “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever.” Israel is not the church. The church is not the nation of Israel.
There are modern day Judizers that are trying to get Christians to observe not only the sabbath, but also the feast days and other Jewish holy days. In other words they are trying to get Christians back under the Law. This is entirely unscriptural. Paul wrote, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days” (Col.2:16). Why? Because the Law ended when Christ “took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” (Col.2:14). Having one day of rest each week may be a good principle to live by, but we must live the way God wants us to live and not the way the people who make up rules want us to live. Jesus is our Sabbath, and not a certain day of the week (see Col.2:17).
