Mark 1:35-39 “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.”

Jesus was serious about praying and preaching. He got up early to pray, and praying was the first thing that He did in the morning. He went to “a solitary place.” All of us need some solitude, some time to be alone and to call on the Lord. After He prayed, He went to preach. Preachers should always pray before they preach. They should pray about what they preach and for those who hear them preach.

When Jesus heard that the people in that place wanted to see Him, He said that He was going somewhere else. That may seem strange to us, but it shows that the desires of the people should not determine the ministry of the man of God. Jesus wanted as many people as possible to hear the Word of God, so He went where He was needed and not just where He was wanted.
