Matthew 15:1-3 “Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?”
Man’s tradition may be good in many cases, but in the life of every believer there comes a time when he must choose between human tradition and the Word of God. When tradition is chosen over the Word of God, it always leads to vain religion and a heart that strays from the Lord. Many doctrines and practices of modern religion should be abandoned because they are man-made traditions which contradict the Bible. Verse 9 says, “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” May God help us to keep our faith firmly settled upon the Bible.
