Matthew 2:23 “And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.”

Jesus is a Nazarene, but He is not a Nazarite as some have mistakenly suggested. A Nazarite is a person who had made special vows to God which required a very strict lifestyle. Jesus is a Nazarene because he was from the town of Nazareth. Nazareth was a mean little town of bad reputation, a place with more than its share of scofflaws, thieves, and petty criminals. This tells us that our origins in this world are not so important as what God is doing in us. God is able to overcome every flaw in our environment and perform His purpose in us.
