Matthew 1:22-23 “Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
These important verses affirm both the Virgin Birth and the deity of Jesus Christ. Liberal teachers say that the word “virgin,” in Isaiah 7:14, could simply mean “young woman.”
However, the Holy Spirit tells us, here in Matthew, chapter 1, the true meaning of the word. It was “before they came together,” which means before they had sexual relations (v. 18). And it says, “She was found with child of the Holy Ghost” (v. 18). It was a miraculous conception. Those who deny the Virgin Birth of Jesus are not Christians, for they have already denied that Jesus is a supernatural Redeemer, and only a supernatural Savior could save us from our sins.
